본 홈페이지의 어류 분류 체계에 대하여
본 홈페이지의 어류 분류 체계는 J.S. Nelson 저 2006년 발행 Fishes of the World, 제4판을 기준으로 시작하였다. Nelson 제4판은 분류군 마다 일련번호가 부여되어 있다. 2016년에는 제5판 Fishes of the World가 나왔는데 강 목 과의 재배치가 이루어져 있고 그러나 제4판에서와 같은 일연 번호는 채택하지 않았다. 본 홈페이지가 참고하는 분류 체계에는 넬슨 분류 외에 fishbase.org도 있다. 본 홈페이지는 이미 편집된 양(종의 수)이 너무 방대할 뿐만 아니라 과 번호를 각 종 마다 표시했기 때문에 업데이트된 분류 순서에 맞춰 수정하기가 거의 불가능하다. 그러나 J.S. Nelson의 제4판 분류 체계는 매우 오랫동안 권위를 유지하며 사용되어 왔기 때문에 아직도 살아있는 편이다. 필자는 제4판 분류 번호를 유지하되 불가피하게 업데이트 시킬 수밖에 없는 것은 기존 번호에 대시(-) 번호를 만들어 추가 삽입하고 있다. 전체적인 맥락은 Nelson 제4판 체계가 유지되고 있다. 넬슨의 공식적인 분류표 제4판과 5판은 본 홈페이지 도입부에 소개되어 있으므로 참고할 수 있다. .  

About the classification system of this website 
The fish classification system used on this website is based on *Fishes of the World, 4th edition* by J. S. Nelson, published in 2006. In Nelson’s 4th edition, each taxonomic group is assigned a serial number. In 2016, the 5th edition of *Fishes of the World* was published, in which the arrangement of orders and families was revised; however, it no longer adopted the serial numbering system used in the 4th edition. In addition to Nelson’s classification, this website also refers to fishbase.org. Because the amount of edited data (the number of species) is already enormous, and because each species is marked with its family number, it is almost impossible to revise everything according to the updated classification sequence. Nevertheless, Nelson’s 4th edition classification has long enjoyed authority and remains in use even today. The editor maintains the numbering system of the 4th edition but, when updates are unavoidable, adds new entries by inserting a dash (-) number to the existing sequence. The overall framework follows Nelson’s 4th edition system. The official classification tables from Nelson’s 4th and 5th editions are introduced in the introduction section of this website for reference.
