(African pompano)
Alectis ciliaris (Bloch, 1787). 150cm(TL)
D/spine6~7+1 soft ray18~22 A/spine(2)-1 soft ray15~17 Scutes/8~30

Korean. n. Sil-jeon-gaeng-i (실전갱이)
Alectis ciliaris (Bloch, 1787).150cm(TL)
Distribution: Worldwide in tropical seas, including eastern and southern Korea.
General: Spines of first dorsal fin and first 2 anal spines embedded with growth. Anterior 5~7 dorsal and anal rays of juveniles extremely long and filamentous, probably mimicking venomous jellyfishes such as cubo-medusae with long thread-like tentacles. Scales minute and embedded, superficially naked. Body very deep in young, becoming less deep with growth. Dorsal profile of head very steep and slightly convex(similar species Alectis indicus: dorsal contour of head before eye almost straight or slightly concave). Silvery blue dorsally, silvery on sides and ventrally, juveniles with 5 dark bars that are slightly chevron-shaped. With 8~30 scutes. Pelagic in nertic and oceanic waters, adults near bottom to depths of 60m. Feed on sedentary or slow moving crustaceans, small crabs and fishes. Excellent food fish.
