농어목 동갈돔과 Order Perciformes Family Apogonidae(cardinalfishes)

분포; 서북태평양: 한국의 동해남부 이남, 일본 남부, 타이완, 및 남중국해에 분포한다.
일반개요; 머리와 몸은 측편되었고 동일 분류군의 다른 종들에 비해 체고가 현저히 높다. 지느러미들의 가장자리는 밖으로 약간 둥글다. 배지느러미를 복부에 밀어붙일 경우 뒷지느러미의 기점을 초과한다. 체색은 황갈색 바탕에 무수한 검은색 점들이 찍히는 방식으로 흑갈색이다. 가슴지느러미와 꼬리지느러미 및 제2등지느러미의 가장자리 부분은 반투명하다. 미병부 뒤 중심에 검은 안점이 있을 수도 있다. 여러 개의 검은 수직선 무늬들은 불분명하게 번져서 전체적으로 검어질 수 있다. 내만의 돌이 많은 모래•개펄 바닥에서 보통 단독생활을 한다. 7~9월에 산란하며 수컷이 구강포란하여 부화시킨다.

Distribution: Northwestern Pacific: south of central East Sea of Korea, southern Japan, Taiwan and South China Sea.
General: Body and head compressed, with notably deep body. Tip of pelvic fin extending past origin of anal fin when depressed. Vertical dark bands on body indistinct in some specimens. Blackish body color consists of black spots or tints and brown ground color. Each fin rounded. Pectoral and caudal fin semitransparent and the rest fins black except the margin of 2nd dorsal fin. Some specimen with black ocellus on posterior peduncle. Occurs solitarily around boulders scattered on sandy and muddy bottoms in bays. Breeding from July to September. Males brood eggs in the mouth.
