분포; 인도-서태평양/한국의 남해, 일본, 타이완, 필리핀, 말레이시아, 베트남, 인도, 오스트레일리아등에 분포하며 남쪽 분포 한계는 확실하지 않다.
일반개요; 공식 영명은 실버리 콩거(silvery conger; 은붕장어)이며 씨 콩거(sea conger), 다크핀 콩거(darkfin conger), 다크핀드 콩거 일(dark-finned conger-eel) 또는 단순히 콩거 일(conger eel)이라고도 부른다. 몸은 통통하다. 항문은 몸 중간에서 약간 앞쪽에 있다. 가슴지느러미는 발달하였다. 등지느러미들의 기점은 아가미구멍 보다 제법 앞쪽에 있다. 지느러미의 연조는 분절되지 않았다. 양턱은 긴 편이며 위턱이 약간 아래턱 앞으로 튀어나가 있다. 윗입술은 잘 발달되어 위로 말려 있다. 입의 뒤 끝은 눈의 중앙 아래에 있다. 눈은 발달하였다. 아가미구멍 슬릿은 크다. 후비공에는 피막이 덮여 있지 않다.

상악골(上顎骨)의 사이골(Intermaxillary/顎間/악간) 이빨은 입을 닫았을 때 부분적으로 감추어진 나머지가 보인다. 주둥이는 뾰족한 편이다. 이빨은 작고 원추형이며 여러 줄로 있다. 상악골과 상악사이골의 이빨들은 연속되어 있다. 상악골 이빨은 좁은 띠(patch) 안에 놓여 있고 외측열의 이빨은 예리하고 내측 열 이빨은 뭉툭하다. 상악사이골과 서골이빨의 패치(patch) 사이에는 작은 이빨이 있다. 서골의 앞쪽 이빨은 예리하고 그 뒤에는 크고 뭉툭한 이빨이 3열로 있으며 상악골 이빨 패치(patch)의 중간 뒤에서 끝난다. 서골 이빨은 앞쪽이 2-3 열이고 뒤쪽은 1열이다. 양턱의 이빨은. 앞쪽은 3-4 열이며 후방은 1줄이다. 앞쪽에는 강한 송곳니가 있다

항문 전 척추골 수는 54‒56, 꼬리 전 척추골 수는 71‒72, 총 척추골 수는 143‒144개 이다. 두부 감각공 수는 19개(안상공 3＋안하공 5＋하악공 8＋전새개공 3＋후측두공 0)이다. 항문 전 측선공 수는 53‒57, 총 측선공 수는 136‒140 개이다.

몸색은 황갈색 내지 회갈색이며 배쪽은 하얀 색이다. 머리의 배쪽은 하얗지 않다. 등지느러미와 뒷지느러미는 매우 넓고 그 가장자리들은 뚜렷하게 검다. 꼬리지느러미는 위는 하얗고 아래 가장자리는 검다. 머리의 등은 어둡고 머리의 등면에 4개의 백색 띠가 있다. 열대성 바닷고기이며 연안의 모래, 펄 바닥에 살며 저서 갑각류와 물고기를 먹는다.

Distribution; Indo-West Pacific/southern Koera, Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, Malaysia, Viet Nam India, and Australia. Southern limit of distribution uncertain.
General; The silvery conger(Ariosoma anago) also known as the sea conger, the darkfin conger, the dark-finned conger-eel, or simply the conger eel, Body stout, anus slightly before midlength, Pectoral well developed, dorsal-fin origin well before gill opening. Rays of fins not segmented. Jaws moderately long, upper jaw projecting slightly beyond tip of lower jaw. The upper lip is well developed and curled up. Gill slit large. posterior nostril without flaps.. Eye well developed, middle of eye over rictus. Snout relatively pointed.

Intermaxillary teeth partly concealed when mouth closed. Teeth small, conical, multiserial. Maxillary and intermaxillary teeth continuous; maxillary teeth in narrow band, teeth sharp on outer row(s) and blunt on inner row(s). Small teeth on space between intermaxillary and vomerine tooth patches. vomerine teeth anterior 2-3 rows, posterior in 1 row  jaws’ teeth anterior 3-4 rows, posterior in one row; and anterior strong conical teeth

Preanal vertebrae 54‒56, precaudal vertebrae 71‒72, total vertebrae 143‒144. Sensory pores in head 19 in total(superorbital pores 3+ infraorbital pores 5＋mandibular pores 8＋ preopercular pores 3＋ posttemporal pores 0).  Preanal lateral-line pores 53‒57 and total pores 136‒140. and preanal lateral-line pores 53 ‒ 57 and total pores 136 ‒ 140.

Body brown to gray brown, slightly paler ventrally, ventral surface of head pigmented as above.
Dorsal and anal fins with very broad conspicuous black margins, caudal fin white with upper and lower margins black. Dorsal surface of head darker with four whitish bands across dark background on dorsal and lateral surface of head. It is a tropical, marine eel which is known to dwell in sandy and muddy bottoms in coastal waters.
