분포; 서태평양/한국의 진해에서 발견되었고 일본, 대만에서 보고되어 있다.
일반개요; 몸이 길고 단단하다. 몸 전체에 비늘이 없다. 등지느러미와 뒷지느러미는 꼬리지느러미와 연결되어있다. 가슴지느러미는 있고 배지느러미는 없다. 등지느러미의 기점은 가슴지느러미 기부 뒤에 있다. 항문은 뒷지느러미 앞에 있는데 몸의 중앙 위치에 해당한다. 주둥이는 짧고 뭉툭한 편이다. 턱은 작다. 위턱이 아래턱보다 약간 길어서 위턱이 아래턱 앞으로 약간 튀어나와있다. 입의 뒤 끝은 눈의 중앙 아래에 이른다. 위와 아래 입술의 테두리는 위로 뒤집혀 있다. 전비공은 튜브형이며 주둥이 끝에 있다. 후비공은 작고 타원형이며 눈의 앞쪽에 있다. 후비공은 피판으로 덮여 있다. 눈은 잘 발달해 있다.

이빨은 작고 원추형이며 여러 줄로 있다. 상악골 이빨과 상악사이골의 이빨은 연속되어 있다. 상악사이골의 이빨(Intermaxillary teeth)은 입을 닫았을 때 부분적으로만 보인다. 서골의 이빨은 뭉툭하고 투박하며 좁고 긴 띠(patch)를 이루고 있으며 이 패치는 상악 이빨 띠의 뒤에서 끝난다. 상악과 하악의 이빨은 앞쪽에서 좁은 띠로 배열되어 있다. 머리의 감각공들은 작다. 양쪽 눈 사이 부분과 등지느러미 기점 사이의 상측두골공(supratemporal pores)은 없다. 안상골공(superorbital pores)은 4, 안하골공(infraorbital pores)은 5 또는 6, 전새개하악골공 (preoperculomandibular pores)은 10 개이다.

신선할 때 몸색은 등쪽은 황갈색이며 배쪽으로는 하얗다. 가슴지느러미는 붉은 색을 띠며 등지느러미와 뒷지느러미의 가장자리는 검다. 그러나 꼬리의 끝은 검지 않다. 머리는 황갈색에 작은 점들이 있으며 입술에는 없다. 눈 뒤에 2개의 어두운 갈색 반점이 있다. 포르말린에 고정시킨 개체는 머리와 몸이 전반적으로 어두운 베이지색이며 모든 지느러미는 불투명하고 등지느러미와 뒷지느러미의 가장자리는 매우 좁게 검다. 꼬리지느러미의 뒤 끝은 검지 않다. 가슴지느러미는 연한 황갈색이다.

Distribution; West Pacific/found in Jin-hae city in Korea, Japan, and Peng-hu Islands in Taiwan.
General; Body elongated and stout. Body without scales. Dorsal and anal fin connected with caudal fin, pectoral fin present but pelvic fin absent. Origin of dorsal fin behind pectoral fin base. Anus located in front of anal fin and in near mid length of the body. Snout blunt and short. .Jaws small, upper jaw slightly longer than lower jaw and upper jaw projecting slightly beyond tip of lower jaw. RIctus placed below middle of eye. Upper and lower lips with well-defined upturned labial flange. Tubular anterior nostril located on tip of snout, small and elliptical posterior nostril located in front of eye. Posterior nostril covered with dermal flap. Eye well developed.

Teeth small, conical, multiserial. Maxillary and intermaxillary teeth continuous. Vomerine teeth stout or blunt, forming a narrow elongate patch ending behind midpoint of maxillary tooth patch. Teeth anteriorly arranged in narrow band on maxillary and mandibular. Intermaxillary teeth partly concealed when mouth closed. With 60 preanal lateral-line pores. Head pores small. No sensory pores between the interorbital region and dorsal fin origin. Superorbital canal with 4 pores, infraorbital pores canal with 5 or 6 pores, preoperculomandibular pores 10,

When fresh, dorsal part brown; ventral region whitish; pectoral fin reddish; dorsal and anal fins with a very thin black margin, but tip of caudal fin not black; head brown with small dots but not on lips; two dark brown blotches behind the eye. After fixation, body and head overall dark beige; all fins opaque, margins of dorsal and anal fin blackish, tip of caudal fin not black, pectoral fin light brown. ※ registered as a Korean new species in 2016 by Jinkoo Kim of Pukyong National University.
