분포; 인도•태평양: 홍해, 동아프리카, 하와이, 투아모토 제도에 분포하며 동태평양 쪽으로 더 가면 분포하지 않는다. 수에즈 운하를 통과해 지중해 동부로 이동한 개체들도 있다.
일반개요; 소형 상어로서 주둥이가 짧고 위(아래)에서 보면 넓게 둥글다. 등지느러미 사이에 융기선은 없다. 옅은 황갈색이며 배쪽은 희다. 모든 지느러미에 뚜렷한 검정색 첨부가 있으며 가슴지느러미와 꼬리지느러미 상엽의 가장자리도 검은 테가 있다. 제1등지느러미의 검정 첨부는 밝은 색과 만나 뚜렷한 경계를 이룬다. 산호 암초 가깝게 살며 맹그로브 숲 지대나 기수에 까지 드나든다. 바다와 인접한 담수에도 들어갈 수 있다. 물고기를 주식하면서 다른 무척추동물도 먹는다. 태생이며 한 배에 46~52cm 크기의 새끼를 2~4마리 낳는다. 수족관에 흔히 있는 종이다. 식용으로 이용된다.

Distribution: Indo-Pacific: East Africa, Red Sea, Hawaiian Islands and Tuamoto Archipelago, more eastely rare or absent. Entered eastern Mediterranean as a Lessepsian migrant.
General: A small shark with a short, bluntly rounded snout, with no interdorsal ridge. Yellow brown above, white below. All fins conspicuous with black tips. Anterior and posterior dark edging on pectoral fins and upper lobe of caudal fin. Black tip of first dorsal fin set off abruptly by a light band below it. Inhabits shallow water close inshore on coral reefs, also found in mangrove areas, moving in and out with tide and even in fresh water near the sea. Prefers fishes, also feeds on crustaceans, cephalopods and mollusks. Viviparous, 2~4 young of 46~52cm are born per litter. Utilized for human consumption.
