분포; 서북태평양/한국의 동해 중부 이남과 남해, 일본 서부, 동중국해에 분포.
일반개요; 머리와 몸은 측편되었고 등의 외곽선은 거의 직선이다. 눈은 작고 양턱에 강한 이가 있다. 전새개골 하부 가장자리에 톱니 거치가 있다. 뺨의 비늘은 크기가 일정하고 몸의 비늘보다 훨씬 작다. 몸은 연한 담홍색이며 살아있을 때 꼬리지느러미에 여러 줄의 노란 수직 무늬가 있다. 수심 30~100m의 모래, 개펄 바닥에 서식한다.

Distribution: South of central eastern sea and southern waters of Korea, western Japan and East China Sea.
General: Head and body compressed. Dorsal margin almost straight. Small eye. Strong  teeth on both jaws. Scale on cheek small, equal in size. Body color reddish. Caudal fin with yellow vertical bands when alive. Inhabits muddy or sandy-muddy bottoms from 30 to 100m depth.
