분포; 동태평양: 브리티시 콜럼비아, 캐나다, 바하 캘리포니아, 멕시코에 분포한다. 더 남쪽으로 파나마, 에쿠아도르, 페루에도 분포할 수 있다.
일반 개요; 주둥이는 넓으면서 납작하다. 등지느러미는 모두 꼬리 쪽으로 치우쳐 있다. 바탕에 갈색 기조가 있으나 거의 흑색이다. 지느러미들의 후방 가장자리가 밝다. 몸이 부드럽고 힘이 없으며 피부가 약해서 상처받기 쉽다. 최대 기록은 68cm이지만 대부분 30~60cm 이다. 다이버를 만나도 무관심한 편이다. 개펄, 모래 바닥에 살며 새우, 오징어, 작은 물고기를 먹는다. 난생이다. 서식 수심은 33~950m이다.

Distribution: Eastern Pacific: British Columbia, Canada to northern Baja California, Mexico. Probably south to Panama, Ecuador, and Peru.
General: Dark brown, or nearly black, with conspicuous light posterior margin on fins. Their bodies are soft and flabby, with a weak skin that can easily be harmed. They typically reach a maximum size of 68 cm in total length, however they average between 30 and 60 cm. Found over muddy or sandy bottoms. Feeds on shrimps, squids, and small fishes. Oviparous. Depth range 33~950m. Data deficient. Tend to ignore divers.
