(Ornate wobbegong)
Orectolobus ornatus (De Vis, 1883). 117cm(TL)

특기 사항;

 Order Orectolobiformes/Family Orectolobidae
※Common names of this order and family/Carpet sharks or Wobbegong sharks.
Ornate wobbegong
Orectolobus ornatus (De Vis, 1883) 117cm(TL)

Distribution: Indo-Pacific: Indonesia and Philippines, Papua New Guinea, north to Japan, south to Australia(including southern Australia and Western Australia). As yet, only Australian populations are known to certainly belong to this species, and it is possible populations in other countries actually represent a separate, undescribed species.

General: A common bottom shark on algal-covered rocky areas and coral reefs. Nocturnal, resting on the bottom during day. Back with light areas between dark saddles marked with dark, light-centered blotches and spots, not reticulated lines. Head and body depressed. Mouth nearly terminal. Skin flaps along side of head and long barbels. Caudal fin with its upper lobe hardly elevated above the body axis, with subterminal notch but no ventral lobe.

Author Richard Ling
Feeds on bottom invertebrates and fishes. Ovoviviparous. Attacks waders in tide pools. Skin very tough and attractively patterned and utilized for leather.
Ref. The drawing refered to live specimen photo.

Remarks; The maximum reported length of the ornate wobbegong is 1.17 metres(3.8 ft). Reports of a larger maximum size is due to confusion with the recently revalidated Banded wobbegong(O. halei), which for the most part is found further south than the ornate wobbegong. The another new name of Band Wobbegong is Gulp Wobbegong.
