Myxine glutinosa (Linnaeus, 1758) 80cm(TL)

분포; 동북 대서양: 무르만스크에서 지중해에 이르기까지 분포하나 지중해 동부와 흑해에는 없다.
일반개요; 동대서양 북부에 서식하는 유일한 해그피쉬이다. 턱이 없고 아가미는 양측에 1개 씩만 있고 콧구멍은 1개이다. 색상은 바닥의 색상에 따라 적갈색일 수도 있고 회갈색일 수도 있다. 펄 바닥에 몸을 숨기고 산다. 몸의 점액은 방어용이다. 죽은 또는 죽어가는 물고기에 구멍을 뚫어 내장과 살을 파먹는다. 야행성이다. 알은 19~30개로 적게 낳으며 20~25mm 크기로 크게 낳는다. 알은 껍데기가 각질이고 양쪽 끝에 갈고리 모양의 필라멘트 뭉치가 달려있다. 40~1200m 수심에 살며 비이주성이다.

Distribution: Northeast Atlantic: Murmansk to the Mediterranean Sea. Absent in eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea. Only hagfish in the Northeast Atlantic.
General: Jawless mouth. single nasal aperture, only a single pair of external gill openings. Variation in color correspond to the color of the sea bottom. Hide in the mud. Feeds mainly on dead or dying fish by boring into the body and consuming viscera and musculature. Eggs are few in number about 19~30 and large(20~25mm), the hard shell has a cluster of anchor-tipped filaments at each end.
