농어목 육돈바리과 Order Perciformes Family Plesiopidae(roundheads)

분포; 인도•태평양: 홍해, 동아프리카~통가와 라인섬, 오스트렐리아~일본 남부에 분포.
일반개요; 흑갈색 바탕에 청색을 띤 백색의 많은 작은 점들이 규칙적인 간격으로 산재한다. 등지느러미 마지막 3기조 하부에 청백색 테두리를 가진 동그란 흑색 안점이 있다. 꼬리지느러미 상단 기부쪽에 노란 점들이 있다. 가슴지느러미는 노랗다. 낮에는 틈속에 숨어 산다. 위험을 느끼면 머리만 틈속에 처박고 등지느러미의 안점과 함께 꼬리를 내놓는다. 그 모양은 흰점박이 곰치(Whitespotted moray)의 머리부분을 의태한 것이다.

Distribution: Indo-Pacific: Red Sea, East Africa to Tonga and Line Islands, Australia to S. W. Japan.
General: Dark brownish black with small pale blue spots. Blue ringed black ocellus above base of last 3 dorsal rays. Yellow spots at base of upper caudal rays. Pectoral rays bright yellow. Crevices on outer reefs in 3~45m. Nocturnal. When alarmed, pokes it’s head into a hole and exposes it’s tail end including ocellus which mimics the head of Whitespotted Moray.
