분포; 인도•태평양/한국의 동해 남부와 남해, 일본 남부에서부터 오스트렐리아, 동아프리카, 하와이를 포함하는 태평양 및 남아프리카의 대서양 해역에 분포한다.
일반개요; 보통 크기는 전장 20cm. 어릴 때 체고가 높고 체장은 짧은 난원형이다. 성어는 그림의 개체(15cm) 보다 체장이 다소 길어진다. 몸의 등쪽은 청회색 내지 녹청색이며 배쪽은 은색이다. 등지느러미와 뒷지느러미의 연조부는 흑갈색이며 가장자리는 희다. 100~200m 깊은 수심의 개펄, 모래 바닥의 저층부에서 유영생활을 하며 갑각류와 물고기를 먹는다. 일본에서 치어를 양식하여 바다에 방류한다.
※ 한국 내 기록들은 본종을 Kaiwarinus 속으로 분류하고 있다. 추측컨데 업데이트되지 않은 학명으로 생각된다. 본서가 기준하는 ‘Nelson 2006’에 Kaiwarinus 속 자체가 없으며 Carangoides 속으로 분류되어 있으며 FishBase.org 에도 Carangoides equula로 나와있다.

Distribution: Indo-Pacific/southeastern and southern waters in Korea, southern Japan, west Pacific, Indian Ocean including East Africa, Hawaii, and Atlantic coast of South Africa.
General: Common length : 20cm(TL). Deep body depth with short length in young, with growth become longer, the specimen of this drawing 15cm TL. Bluish grey to green above, silvery below. Soft dorsal and anal fins with submarginal blackish brown band and the outer margins white. Found on continental shelf and slopes in 100~200m depth. Benthopelagic. Cultured and released for fishery in Japan.
