A variation of goldfish(Carassius auratus) |
금붕어의 학명이 Carassius auratus(현재 호칭; 금붕어; 골드피시)인가 Carassius carassius(원산지 유럽/현재 호칭; 붕어)인가 혼란이 일어나 있는 것은 이 때문이다. |

[Freshwater fish]] Distribution; Asia/central Asia and China, Korea and Japan. Introduced throughout the world. Asian form of the goldfish. Several countries report adverse ecological impact after introduction. “Bung-eo” is a medium-sized cyprinid, typically 15 cm in body length, but a maximum total length of 64.0 cm is reported for a male, and the heaviest published weighed 3 kilograms. Body with deep depth, laterally compressed. Large cycloid scales embedded like roof tiles. Scales absent on head. Snout short with round tip. Mouth posited slightly below the snout tip. Barbel absent. Head short in length. Small eye located slightly ahead of middle head. Lateral line complete, almost straight, reaches to base of caudal fin. Two nostrils stand close to each other. The first nostril small and with skin flap around it. Mouth small, lips thick. Lower jaw shorter than upper jaw. Anal fin begins below the posterior end of dorsal fin base. Anal fin short, The third dorsal and anal-fin rays are strong and serrated posteriorly. The paired pelvic fins fused together. Caudal fin concaved. Distinguished from other deep-bodied fish of the carp family by the rounded tips to the large caudal fin. The variation in color of “Bung-eo” can be very high with their environments, specimens live in flowing water get bluish dorsal color with silvery white ventral color, whereas, specimens live in closed water environments get greenish dorsal color with brownish ventral color. “Bung-eo” can survive at high temperatures and at very low oxygen concentrations during summer and under ice cover. Tolerates cold, organic pollutants, and low oxygen levels in the water. Feeds all day but mainly at night on plankton, benthic invertebrates, plant materials and detritus. Spawn in April to July, optimum water temperature for spawning is around 18℃. Spawns in dense submerged vegetation. Eggs are sticky and are attached to water plants, hatch after 4-8 days. Live up to about 10 years. Marketed fresh and frozen; eaten fried, broiled and baked. "Crucian carp" with taxonomic name of Carassius carassius is also used for the genus Carassius as a whole. The crucian carp is the type species for the genus, which has led to confusion in the taxonomy of species native to East Asia(including “Bung-eo”). Often confused with Carassius gibelio(Prussian carp), the two differ not just in their colour but also in the size of the scales, the Crucian carp usually having 31-35 along the lateral line while the Prussian carp’s scales are slightly larger, with only 27-32. Some sources state that the goldfish(Carassius auratus) is a cultivated breed of crucian carp taken from the wild. Goldfish. By the Song dynasty(960–1279), the selective domestic breeding of goldfish was firmly established. In 1162, the empress of the Song Dynasty ordered the construction of a pond to collect gold variety. By this time, people outside the imperial family were forbidden to keep goldfish of the gold(yellow) variety, yellow being the imperial colour. This is probably the reason why there are more orange goldfish than yellow goldfish, even though the latter are genetically easier to breed. The occurrence of other colours(apart from red and gold) was first recorded in 1276. During the Ming dynasty(1368–1644), goldfish also began to be raised indoors, which permitted selection for mutations that would not be able to survive in ponds. The first occurrence of fancy-tailed goldfish was recorded in the Ming Dynasty. In 1603, goldfish were introduced to Japan. In 1611, goldfish were introduced to Portugal and from there to other parts of Europe. During the 1620s, goldfish were highly regarded in southern Europe because of their metallic scales, and symbolised good luck and fortune. It became tradition for married men to give their wives a goldfish on their first anniversary, as a symbol for the prosperous years to come. This tradition quickly died, as goldfish became more available, losing their status. Goldfish were first introduced to North America around 1850 and quickly became popular in the United States. |
