분포; 서태평양/한국의 제주도, 일본 남부, 필리핀, 타이완, 인도네시아, 오스트렐리아 북서부에 분포.
일반개요; 몸의 바탕은 거의 흰색이며 비늘마다 있는 갈색부분이 비늘 열을 따라 45도로 경사진 줄무늬로 나타난다. 등지느러미와 뒷지느러미의 큰 부분이 작은 비늘로 덮여 있다. 가슴지느러미를 제외한 나머지 지느러미들은 노랑색이다. 얼굴에 눈을 감싼 흑색 타원형 반점이 있고 이마에도 검은 점이 있다. 산호초 3~25m 수심에 살며 보통 두 마리 쌍, 또는 소 그룹으로 다닌다. 유어들은 기수나 얕은 수심의 보호된 환경에 숨어서 단독 생활을 한다. 난생이다. 산호와 게, 갯지렁이, 기타 무척추동물을 먹는다.

Distribution: Western Pacific/Jeju Island in Korea, southern Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia and northwestern Australia.
General: Whitish with diagonal brown stripes on the sides. Fins yellow(except pectoral). Oval shaped black eye bar, and small black spot on nape. Scales extend onto anal and dorsal fins. Small brushlike teeth. Usually in pairs or small groups, silty inshore reefs and clear outer reefs in 3~25m depth. Oviparous. Juveniles solitary and found on shallow protected reefs or in estuaries. Feed on corals, crabs, worms, and other invertebrates
