분포; 서북태평양: 한국의 남해와 서해 남부, 일본 중부 이남, 타이완, 중국, 남중국해 북부 대륙붕에 분포.
일반개요; 가슴지느러미 외측 모서리 각도가 120도(전자리상어는 90도). 등 중심선에 가시가 없다(전자리상어는 있다). 주둥이 끝의 윗입술이 오목하다(전자리상어는 오목하지 아니하다). 두 눈 사이의 거리보다 두 분수공 사이의 거리가 짧다(전자리상어는 반대임). 배쪽은 희며 몸의 등쪽은 바닥의 색상에 따라 황갈색 또는 흑갈색 바탕이며 표범 무늬를 닮은 어두운 반점들과 흰점들이 산재한다. 모래 또는 개펄 바닥에 서식한다. 난태생이다.

Distribution: South Sea and southern West Sea of Korea, south of central Japan, Taiwan, China and northern shelf of South China Sea.
General: Outer corner of pectoral fin about 120。 Mid-dorsu m without spines. Dermal fold between nasal barbels distinctly concave(obvious when viewed from dorsal side). Interspiracle width slightly shorter than interorbital width. White ventrally. Dorsal side yellowish brown to dark brown, varies with the bottom colors. Numerous dark and pale spots or blotches resembling leopard. Sandy-muddy bottoms in maximum depth of 300m. Ovoviviparous.
