Distribution; Asia/Endemic to South Korea. Originally only found in Seom-Jin river, but found in Dong-Jin river after the construction of water conveyance tunnel between the two rivers.
General; Body slender, elongated and slightly compressed. Head also elongated. Snout protruded forward with pointed tip. Mouth small, placed below the snout. 3 pairs of barbels. Eye small and interorbital space very narrow. Eye located upper side of head center. A branched spine below eye. Female larger than male. Pectoral fin of male larger than female, and with small bony plate(lamina circularis) at the base of second ray. Dorsal fin placed at the midpoint of body and triangular in shape. Pelvic fin origin located at the same position of dorsal fin origin. Anal fin placed at the midpoint between pelvic fin and the posterior end of caudal fin. Margin of caudal fin almost truncated. Lateral line incomplete; not surpass the base of pectoral fin.

Pale yellow in ground color with deep brown color dorsally. A dark narrow brown streak that passing through eye from snout to nape. Brown blotches scattered on cheek. Other species in genus Cobitis have Gambetta's Zone that consisted by 4 stripes, whereas Cobitis tetralineata absent in fourth stripe of Gambetta's Zone, only has upper 3 stripes; the second stripe is pale in color and discontinuous. A black spot at upper side of caudal fin base. 2~3 dark bands on dorsal and caudal fins.

Inhabit sand, gravel bottoms in mid reaches of clear streams. Hide under substrate when feel danger. Feed mainly on aquatic insects and Algae. This species was active on the sand during the daylight hours from March to October, but they hibernated in the inside of the sand during the winter season. The spawning season may be from late June to middle July. In its spawning season, lateral color pattern of male was changed as a sexual dimorphism. Reported as a new species in 1999 by Korean ichthyologist Kim-ik-soo.
