◇담수어
분포; 한국의 탐진강(전라남도 장흥군에서 남해로 흐르는 강), 낙동강, 거제도 일부, 일본에 분포한다.
일반개요; 측선공비늘 수는 33~40개이며 꺽지의 비늘보다 훨씬 더 크다. 체측에 7~8개의 수직무늬가 있다. 아가미뚜껑의 뒤쪽 상단 끝 가장자리가 둥근 점이 꺽지와 다르다. 그 곳에 청록색 안점이 있고 안점의 아래와 위에 뾰족한 가시가 한 개씩 있다. 유속이 완만하고 수초가 우거진 강의 가장자리에서 단독 생활을 한다. 산란기는 5~6월이며 수초에 알을 붙인다. 수정란은 수컷이 보호한다. 작은 물고기, 수서곤충을 잡아먹는다.

◇Freshwater fish.
Distribution: Nakdong River, Tamjin River, and Keo-je-do in southern Korea and fresh waters in Japan.
General: Prefers slow current streams with much water plants. Lays eggs on water plants in May and June. Eggs and fry are guarded by male. Solitary species. Feeds on aquatic insects and small fishes. Bluish-green ocellus with red anterior margin when alive. Opercle with 2 distinct spines.
