분포; 서태평양/한국의 제주도, 일본 남부, 남중국해에 분포.
일반개요; 살아있을 때 꼬리지느러미는 노르스름하다. 머리 위의 비늘 부분은 동공 앞 끝에 이른다. 가슴지느러미는 제2등지느러미의 기점 아래에 이른다. 등은 녹청색 내지 청색 배는 은백색이다. 아가미뚜껑 상단 가장자리에 검은점이 있다. 미병부 아래 위에 토막지느러미가 1개씩 있다. 내만과 연안의 약간 깊은 수심에서 무리로 유영생활을 한다.
※ 본종의 학명 Decapterus maruadsi는 갈고등어의 학명 Decapterus muroadsi와 혼동되기 쉽다.

Distribution: Jeju Island in Korea, southern Japan, and south China Sea.
General: Caudal fin yellowish when alive. Predorsal scale area reaching near anterior margin of pupil. Pectoral fin reaching below the origin of 2nd dorsal fin. Silvery blue-green or blue dorsally, silvery below. A black spot on upper end of gill opening. A finlet on and under the peduncle. Found in sublittoral zone and semi-enclosed sea area. Schooling species.
※ Should not be confused with the similar-name species ‘Decapterus muroadsi’.
