분포; 동대서양/사하라 서부에서부터 남아프리카까지, 서대서양/캐나다, 미국에서부터 아르헨티나까지. 태평양/하와이, 오스트레일리아, 서인도양, 남중국해에 분포.
일반개요; 본종에 관한 자료 부족함. 트랜스페런트 랜턴피시(Transparent lantern fish)는 디아푸스속(genus Diaphus)의 한 종이며 이 속은 샛비늘치과 안에서 가장 많은 종(77종)을 포함하고 있는 속이다. 중심해층에 사는 심해어이다. 주야간 수직 이동을 하며 낮에는 375-750 m 수심권에 있다가 야간에 먹이를 먹으려고 125 m 수심까지 상승한다. 체장 7 cm 정도의 소형 물고기이며 5~5.5 cm 경에 성적으로 성숙된다. 대서양의 대심도 저인망 어선에서 잡히는 것으로 보면 매우 흔한 물고기에 속한다. 다른 해역에서도 그럴 것으로 보인다. 이 물고기는 인간에게 활용되지는 않는다.

Distribution; Eastern Atlantic/Western Sahara to Cape of Good Hope, South Africa. Western Atlantic/USA to Argentina. Northwest Atlantic/Canada. Eastern Pacific: Near Hawaii. Western Pacific/southwards to East Australian Current. Western Indian Ocean/South China Sea.
General; Data deficient. Diaphus perspicillatus is a species in genus Diaphus of lanternfishes. It is the most species rich lanternfish genus. There are 77 recognized species. Diaphus perspicillatus is oceanic, mesopelagic and performs diel migrations from as deep as 375-750 m during the day, up to the surface to 125 m during the night for feeding purposes. Seem to reach sexual maturity at a length between 5 and 5.5 cm. This species is fairly common within its range in the eastern Atlantic, as indicated by mid-water trawl surveys, as well as in other parts of its range. This species is not utilized.
