분포; 인도•서태평양: 한국의 남해, 일본 남부, 서태평양, 인도양에 분포한다.
일반개요; 머리와 몸은 측편되었고 체고가 높다. 정상적으로는 바탕이 노란색이지만 전체가 검정색이 될 때까지 다단계 중간 색으로의 변색이 가능하다. 유어기에는 독이 있는 청베도라치과 Meiacanthus 속의 한 종과 비슷하게 색상(노랗거나 회색)을 의태한다. 스트레스를 받으면 피부에서 독성 물질이 분비된다. 후자어기(postflexion larval stage) 때는 등지느러미 제 2, 3 가시가 매우 길게 늘어진다. 산호초, 암초의 얕은 수심에서부터 100m까지 발견된다. 입을 매우 크게 벌릴 수 있으며 상상 외로 큰 먹이감을 삼킨다. 물고기를 주식한다.
※바리과에 ”두줄벤자리”라는 물고기 이름은 만들어 놓은 것은 잘못된 것 같다. ‘벤자리’는 다른 종류 물고기의 과명으로 사용되고 있기 때문이다. 예를 들어 노랑벤자리과(Family Callanthiidae)가 있고 여기에 “노랑벤자리”라는 종이 있으며 또 살벤자리과(Family Terapontidae)가 있고 여기에는 “네줄벤자리”라는 종이 있다. “두줄벤자리”는 바리과가 아닌 이들 과의 물고기로 인식하게 된다.

Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: southern Korea, southern Japan, West Pacific, Maldives and India, south to Lord Howe Island.
General: Head and body compressed. Normally yellow, but changeable from bright yellow, greyish to nearly all black. Juveniles take-on colors of the local venomous Meiacanthus blennies that are yellow or grey. Found in rocky and coral reefs from a few meters to at least 100m. The expandable jaws swallow surprisingly large prey. Feeds mainly on fishes. Secretes the skin toxin grammistin under stress. The 2nd and 3rd dorsal spines elongated very long in postflexion larva.
