분포; 인도•태평양: 한국의 남해, 일본 남부, 서태평양, 홍해, 인도양, 오스트렐리아 동남부에 분포.
일반개요; 몸 색깔은 기본적으로 연한 주홍색 바탕에 대략 5개의 진한 주홍색 수직 무늬가 있으나 서식지 바닥의 밝기에 따라 농도와 콘트라스트의 변화가 심하다. 등지느러미 극조부의 가장자리는 위쪽은 백색 아래는 검정색이 받치고 있다. 보통 연안의 얕은 수심에 있으나 160m 수심에서도 발견된다. 물고기, 게, 새우, 구각류(stomatopods), 거미불가사리, 문어 등을 먹는다.

Distribution: Indo-Pacific: southern Korea, southern Japan, West Pacific, Red Sea and Indian Ocean, south to the Arafura Sea, southern Queensland(Australia), and Lord Howe Island.
General: Light red with about 5 deep red vertical bands. Distal margin of spinous portion of dorsal fin black with white tips on the top. Body colour shade and contrast varies greatly according to its resting bottom colours. Occurs in outer reef slopes at depth below 4m, also found down to a depth of 160m. Feeds on fishes, crabs, shrimps, stomatopods, ophiuroids, and octopus.
