분포; 서태평양: 한국의 제주도, 일본 남부, 동중국해, 필리핀, 인도네시아, 오스트렐리아 북부에 분포한다.
일반개요; 몸색은 옅은 갈색이며 머리에 3개의 비스듬한 어두운 선이 있다. 두 눈 사이가 약간 볼록하다. 머리의 등은 뚜렷하게 볼록하며 전새개골(아가미뚜껑앞뼈)의 각진 가장자리에 2개 내지 4개의 큰 가시가 있다. 아가미뚜껑 상단에 3개의 뚜렷한 가시가 있다. 위턱은 눈 후방 가장자리 위치에 닿거나 약간 넘는다. 성어는 아래 턱 밑에 계단 같은 연장부가 있다. 아래턱과 위턱에 송곳니 모양의 이빨들이 열을 이루며 발달해 있다. 유문수(幽門垂, Pyloric caeca)는 7개 또는 8개이다.몸에 뚜렷한 무늬가 없다. 거의 모두 개펄 바닥으로부터 잡혀 나오는 것으로 보아 바위 지대보다는 부드러운 바닥에 서식하는 것으로 추정된다. 서식 수심은 40~235m 범위이다. 생태에 관해 알려진 정보가 없다. ※ bridle: 말 굴레

Distribution: West Pacific: southern Korea(Jeju Island), southern Japan, East China Sea, Philippines, Indonesia and northern Australia.
General: Body light brown, head with 3 dark oblique stripes. Slightly convex interorbital area, distinctly convex dorsal head profile; preopercle angular, with 2-4 large spines at the angle; upper edge of operculum approximately straight; posterior nostril about twice as large as anterior nostril; maxilla usually reaches to or slightly past a vertical at rear edge of eye; step-like extension on lower edge of maxilla in adults; well developed canines at from of jaws, especially in upper jaw; 2 rows of teeth on midlateral part of lower jaw; pyloric caeca 7 or 8. Seems to prefer soft(sedimentary) bottom, rather than rocky areas, most specimens have been taken on mud or silty sandy bottoms. Nothing has been published on the biology of this species.
