반딧불게르치과 Family Acropomatidae (Lanternbellies)
세계에 8속 약 31종, 한국에 4속 7종이 기록되어 있다. 40cm 크기의 종들이 있으나 대부분 15cm 미만의 작은 종들이다. 본과의 영명 랜턴벨리(lanternbelly)는 복부에 등불(lantern)이 있다는 뜻이다. 8속 중에 아크로포마(Acropoma) 속이 배지느러미 부분 복부에 빛을 내는 발광기관을 가지고 있다. 또한 아크로포마 종들은 항문이 배지느러미의 기부 부분에 위치하는데 농어목의 다른 어류 중에서 이렇게 항문이 몸의 앞쪽에 있는 종들은 동갈돔과(family Apogonidae)의 Apogon gularis(얼게비늘 종류)와 바리과(family Serranidae)의 Bullisichthys caribbaeus(대서양 종) 단 2종 뿐이다. 본과의 어류는 온대에서 열대에 걸쳐 모든 해양에서 발견되며 일반적으로 수백 미터 깊은 수심에 산다.

Globally 8 genera 31 species, 4 genera 7 species in Korea. Members of the family are generally small, with some ranging up to 40 cm, but most no more than 15 cm. The Korean Society of Systematic Zoology puts the striped jewfish(Stereolepis doederleini) into this family, but this site placed it in the family Polyprionidae in order to follow updated global classification(Nelson, 2006).
The three species of genus Acropoma have light organs and the anus near the pelvic fin base, the only other perciformes with such an anterior anus is the serranid Bullisichthys caribbaeus and the apogonid Apogon gularis. They are found in all temperate and tropical oceans, usually at depths of several hundred meters.
