세줄가는돔과 Family Caesionidae(Fusiliers)
세계에 4속 약 20종, 한국에 1속 1종이 알려져 있다. 입이 작고 약간 위로 향하며 앞으로 튀어나올 수 있는 구조이다. 꼬리지느러미는 깊게 패였다. 인도•태평양 열대해역에만 서식하며 산호초 주변에서 큰 무리를 지어 빠르게 헤엄치면서 플랑크톤을 먹는다. 무리에는 서로 다른 푸질리어들이 섞여 있을 때가 많다. 야간에는 암초에 내려와 은신처에서 잠을 잔다. 이 때는 적색으로 변한다. 스쿠바 다이버들이 자주 만날 수 있는 어종이다. 빠르게 헤엄칠 수 있는 무한히 넓은 공간이 필수적이어서 좁은 수족관에서는 기르기 어렵다.
※ 푸질리어(fusilier): 영국이나 프랑스 등의 옛 수발총 보병. 푸질리어 무리가 헤엄치는 모습을 보면 군복의 디자인도 비슷한 점이 있는 수발총 보병들이 열을 지어 행진하는 장면이 연상되어 이 이름이 붙은 것 같다.

Family Caesionidae(Fusiliers)
Four genera with about 20 species, one genus with one species in Korea. Close relatives of snappers, confined to tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific. Small slightly upturned terminal mouths with protrusible upper jaws, and deeply forked tails. Typically congregate in large, fast swimming zooplankton-feeding aggregations in mid-water along outer reef slopes. Such schools often consist of mixed species. Seek reefs’ protection to sleep at night and assume a red ground color. Require unrestricted space, hence unsuitable for home aquaria.
