현재 한국 문헌에는 청대치와 홍대치의 학명이 각각 Fistularia commersonii와 Fistularia petimba로 되어 있으나 필자가 해외의 여러 자료를 검토해 본 결과 학명이 서로 뒤바뀐 것으로 해석되어 한국명을 필자의 생각대로 바꾸었다. 정리하면 청대치는 학명이 Fistularia commersonii이며 홍대치는 Fistularia petimba이다. 영명에서도 Fistularia commersonii는 Bluespotted cornetfish이며 Fistularia petimba는 Red cornetfish이다. Fishbase.org 에는 이 두 학명이 서로 엇갈리게 동종되는 일이 자주 있다라고 설명되어 있으며 위키페디아나 또는 다른 인터넷 정보들은 검색해 보면 한국명이 오류인 것으로 나타난다(이 기사 작성일; 2022년 3월 31일)

큰가시고기목(Gasterosteiformes)에 소속되어 있다가 실고기목으로 배치된 과이다. 세계에 1속 4종, 한국에 1속 2종이 알려져 있다. 열대와 아열대 바다에 산다. 대서양, 인도양, 태평양에 분포한다. 몸은 매우 길고 옆으로 약간 납작하다. 주둥이가 길고 튜브 모양이며 수염은 없다. 비늘이 없고 많은 작은 가시(小棘)와 골판들이 열을 지어 몸을 덮고 있다. 등지느러미와 뒷지느러미에 가시 기조가 없다. 등지느러미와 뒷지느러미는 연조 13-20 개로 구성되어 있다. 꼬리지느러미는 안으로 깊게 갈라져 있으며 중심부의 2개 기조는 길게 연장된 하나의 필라멘트를 형성하고 있다. 항문은 배지느러미에 가깝게 있다. 측선은 잘 발달되어 있고 꼬리의 필라멘트까지 배열되어있다. 복부의 척추골에는 2개의 수평 방향 연장부가 있다. 척추골 수는 76-87개이다. 최대 1.8 m 크기이다. 대개 연안 바다나 산호초에서 살며 트인 바다 공간이나 산호초에서 작은 물고기와 갑각류를 잡아 먹는다. ※ 코넷(cornet)은 작은 트럼펫같이 생긴 금관 악기를 말한다.

Formerly included in order Gasterosteiformes. 1 genera 4 species worldwide, 1 genera 2 species in Korea. Marine; tropical and subtropical. Distribute in Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans. Body extremely elongate and slightly depressed. Snout prolonged and tubular, without barbels. Scaleless or with tiny prickles and rows of scutes. Dorsal or anal spines absent. Dorsal soft rays 13-20. Anal soft rays 13-20. Forked caudal fin whose center rays form a lengthy filament. Caudal filament formed by 2 center rays. Anus close to pelvic fins. Well developed lateral line and extends onto the caudal filament. anterior portion arched to almost mid-dorsal and extending onto caudal filament. Abdominal vertebrae with two lateral extensions, becoming reduced posteriorly. Vertebrae 76-87. Maximum length recorded 1.8 m. They generally live in coastal waters or on coral reefs,  Feed on small fishes and crustaceans in open water or among coral reefs.
