퉁돔과 Family Lutjanidae(Snappers)
세계에 4아과, 17속 약 105종, 한국에 5속 7종이 알려져 있다.  열대, 아열대 해역에 주로 분포하며 드물게는 담수나 기수에 사는 종도 있다. 등지느러미는 전체가 이어져 있으며 가운데가 약간 패인 것들도 있다. 입은 큰 편이며 정면으로 열리며 (terminal mouth) 대부분 큰 송곳니를 가지고 있다. 위턱은 뒤 끝에 상악골이 없는 구조이다. 꼬리지느러미는 절단형에서부터 안쪽으로 약간 오목한 것 또는 깊이 패인 타입까지 있다. 최대 1m 크기가 있다. 얕은 수심에서부터 550m 수심까지 나타나며 대개 바닥 쪽에서 산다.

17 genera with about 105 species in 4 subfamilies, 5 genera with 7 species in Korea. Marine, rarely in freshwater and estuaries. Tropical and Subtropical, Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific. Dorsal fin continuous or with a shallow notch. Mouth terminal, moderate to large, most with enlarged canine teeth on jaws, supramaxilla absent. Maximum length about 100cm. From shallow water to depths of about 550m. Generally occur near the bottom.
