게르치과 Family Scombropidae(Gnomefishes)
세계에 1속 약 3종, 한국에 1속 1종이 기록되어 있다. 종전에 게르치는 Scombrops(3종)와 Pomatomus(1종) 2개 속을 묶은 블루피쉬과(Bluefishes, Family Pomatomidae)에 소속되어 있었으나 ‘2006 넬슨 제4판’은 Scombrops 속을 과로 독립시켰다. 눈이 큰 편이며 등지느러미는 2개로서 비교적 높다. 제1등지느러미에 극조 7~10, 뒷지느러미에 극조 3개가 있다. 인도•태평양에 2종 대서양에 1종이 서식하는 것으로 알려져 있다.
※ 과의 영명 gnomefishes의 gnome(노움)은 ‘땅 신령’, ‘격언’의 뜻이다. 

Family Scombropidae(Gnomefishes)
This genus was placed in the family Pomatomidae(Bluefishes) in ‘Nelson 1994’ placed in its own family in “Nelson 2006’ At least two species are Indo-West Pacific with Scombrops oculatus being widespread in the Atlantic. One genus, Scombrops, with about three species. Eyes relatively large, two moderately high dorsal fins, first with 7~10 spines, second with 3 spines.
