분포; 인도•태평양/한국의 남해와 제주도, 일본 남부, 홍해, 남아프리카, 마샬 제도, 사모아 제도, 오스트레일리아의 대보초, 뉴칼레도니아.
일반개요; 다른 종에 비해 체고가 낮아 날씬하다. 위턱 뒤끝은 동공의 앞부분을 조금 지난다. 등지느러미를 제외한 나머지 지느러미들은 희미하게 노란색이 깃들어 있다. 등지느러미 막의 위는 경계선이 불분명하게 어둡고 그 가장자리는 가늘게 검다. 꼬리지느러미는 크고 깊게 안으로 패였다. 어릴 때는 6~8개의 희미한 수직 무늬가 있다. 연안의 모래, 개펄 지역에 서식하며 흙속의 작은 생물들을 잡식한다. 단독 또는 무리를 짓는다.

Distribution: Indo-Pacific/South Sea and Jeju Island of Korea, southern Japan, Red Sea to South Africa, east to Marshall and Samoa islands; and south to the Queensland, Australia (Great Barrier Reef) and New Caledonia. General: More slender compared to other similar species. Posterior margin of maxillary slightly beyond a vertical anterior margin of pupil. Fins, except dorsal fin, with dull faint yellow tints. Indistinct dusky patch and very narrow dark or black distal margins on upper membranes. Caudal fin deeply forked, with long lobes. Sometimes(especially in juveniles) with 6~8 faint dusky bars on body. Occurs over shallow sandy, muddy flats of protected waters. Feed on small organisms living on bottoms. Occurs in singly or in groups.
