분포; 서태평양/한국의 동해 남부, 일본 중부 이남, 중국해에 분포.
일반개요; 윗입술이 두텁다. 성어는 주둥이의 등쪽 외곽선이 가파르다. 아가미뚜껑(새개골) 전체가 비늘로 덮여있다. 체측 중앙에 너비가 넓은 노란색 수직 무늬가 있으며 물 밖으로 나오거나 죽으면 노랑색이 사라진다. 몸은 녹갈색을 띤다. 바위암초, 산호초 지역에서 단독 생활을 하며 조류를 주식한다.

Distribution: Western Pacific/southeastern Korea, south of central Japan and China Sea.
General: Upper lip thick. Dorsal contour of snout steep in adults. Opercle entirely covered with scales. Body with one bright yellow vertical band at middle when alive, in adults, yellow band disappeaing when taken out of water and in spirits. Blackish greenish grey in body color. Coastal rocky reefs. Feed mainly on algae. Solitary.
