분포; 서북태평양/한국의 동해 남부, 남해 및 제주도, 일본 홋카이도 이남(류구열도 제외), 타이완 동중국해에 분포.
일반개요; 체고가 약간 높은 난형. 아가미뚜껑 가장자리가 흑색이 아니다. 그러나 어떤 개체는 거무스레한 경우도 있다. 측선 위 비늘 수는 6~9 이다. 몸의 비늘들은 중심부 또는 기부에 검은점이 찍혀있다. 검은점이 없는 개체도 있을 수 있으며 죽은 개체는 불분명해진다. 성어의 미병부 높이는 높은 편이다. 입은 작고 이빨은 해조류를 갉아먹기에 유리한 구조이다. 꼬리지느러미 후단은 절단형이거나 안으로 약간 패였다. 몸은 녹흑색 또는 청흑색이며 전체적으로 어둡지만 밝은 바탕일 때(그림 2)도 있다. 연안 암초지대에 서식하며 해조류와 작은 갑각류, 무척추동물을 먹는다.

Distribution: Northwest Pacific/Southeastern and southern waters including Jeju Island in Korea, south of Hokkaido in Japan(except the Ryukyu Islands), Taiwan and East China Sea.
General: Oval shape with relatively deep depth. Posterior margin of opercle not black(but with darker opercular margin in some specimens). Number of scale rows over lateral line 6~9. Each scale on body with darker dots on middle or base, difficult to recognize in spirits. Caudal peduncle deep in adults. Small mouth, with numerous small teeth adapted to nibble at algae. Caudal fin truncate or moderately concave. Greenish dark gray or bluish dark gray in body color, some specimens with pale ground color under dark dots(Drawing 2). Coastal rocky reefs. Feeds on algae, small crustaceans and other invertebrates.
