Distribution; Asia/endemic to Korea. Found in streams flow to east coasts of South Korea; Hyeon-san river, O-sip-cheon stream, chuk-san-cheon stream, and Song-cheon-cheon stream.
General; Head and body elongated, thick and slightly compressed laterally; shape similar to slender stick. Snout protruded with rounded tip. Mouth small with 3 pairs of barbels, the third barbel longest and its’ length surpass twice the eye diameter. lower lip with a groove in center that separates the lip into 2 labial lobes. Eye small, interorbital space narrow, located upper side of head center. An erectile branched spine below eye.

Dorsal fin placed at middle of body, and the origin closer to caudal fin base than snout tip. Dorsal fin with triangular form. Dorsal fin begins just below the origin of pelvic fin. Pectoral fin of male with lamina circularis(small bony plate). lamina circularis of Iksookimia yongdokensis look similar to that of King Spine Loach(Iksookimia longicorpa), but much smaller in size. Pectoral fin of male longer than female, tip of pectoral fin pointed in male and rounded in female. Anal fin located at the middle between posterior tip of caudal fin and pelvic fin. Margin of caudal fin truncated. Lateral line incomplete, not surpass the base of pectoral fin. Scale very small and the core is relatively broad.

Over all ground color pale yellow. A streak from snout to eye. 11~13 dark brown blotches regularly spaced on upper dorsal side, below it, cloudy mottles followed. 9∼13 dark brown blotches in shape of inverted triangle regularly spaced along the flank. This flank blotches very similar to that of Iksookimia longicorpa and Iksookimia hugowolfeldi, but the first and second blotches are pale or vestigial in Iksookimia yongdokensis. 3∼4 transverse bands on dorsal and caudal fins. A black blotch on upper side of caudal fin base.

Found in slow flowing or stagnant waters in mid reaches of streams. Inhabits sand and gravel bottoms. Hide under substrate when feel danger. Feed on aquatic insects and attached algae. Spawn in June to July. Reported as a new species in 1997 by Prof. Kim Ik Soo.
