분포; 서북태평양/한국의 서해와 남해, 동중국해, 남중국해에 분포.
일반개요; 등은 황회색, 살아있을 때 배쪽은 황금색이다. 주둥이 끝은 둥글고 아래턱이 위턱보다 약간 길다. 입이 크고 위턱의 뒤끝은 눈 후단 아래에 이른다. 등지느러미, 뒷지느러미의 연조부는 작은 비늘로 덮여 있다. 지느러미들은 연한 노란색이다. 입술이 붉다. 수심 120m 미만의 모래, 개펄 지역에 서식한다. 중국에서 대량 양식된다.

참조기와 부세의 차이점
. 참조기에 비해서 부세의 꼬리자루(미병부)가 가늘고 길다.
. 참조기에 비해서 부세의 몸이 야위어 보인다.
. 참조기에 비해서 부세의 비늘이 좀 더 작고 조밀하다.
. 참조기는 40cm 이상이 드물지만 부세는 전장 80cm까지 자라는 대형종이다.
. 참조기의 측선은 폭이 크고 부세는 좁다.
. 참조기의 뒷지느러미에는 2개의 가시와 9~10(보통 9개)개의 연조가 있고 부세의 뒷지느러미에는 2개의 가시와 7~9(보통 8개)개의 연조가 있다.
. 참조기의 뒷지느러미 제2극조는 눈 지름보다 짧고 부세는 눈 지름보다 길다.

Korean. n. Bu-se (부세)

Distribution: Northwest Pacific/western and southern waters of Korea, East and South China Seas.
General: Yellowish grey dorsally, gold below when alive. Blunt snout. Lower jaw slightly longer than upper. Large mouth. Posterior end of lower jaw reachis posterior margin of the eye. Soft-rayed portions of dorsal and anal fins mostly covered with small scales. Fins pale yellow. With red lips. Soft rays of the anal fin 9~10, usually 9. Peduncle more slender than Small yellow croaker(Larimichthys polyactis). Depth of the middle body shallower than Small Yellow Croaker(Larimichthys polyactis). Inhabit sand, muddy bottoms shallower than 120m depth. Cultured in China.
