분포; 아시아/ 한국의 한강, 임진강, 금강, 낙동강에서 볼 수 있으며, 한국에서만 분포하는 한국고유종이다.
일반개요; 몸은 가늘고 길며 몸 높이는 낮고 옆으로 약간 납작하고 후반부로 갈수록 더 납작해진다. 눈은 크고 머리 중앙에서 위쪽으로 위치하여 있다. 입은 가는 말굽모양으로 바닥을 향해 주둥이 밑에 있고, 입 구석에 1쌍의 수염이 있다. 수염 길이는 눈 지름의 2/3 정도이다. 아래 입술 중앙의 봉합부는 거꾸로 된 하트(심장) 모양이다. 등지느러미는 몸의 가운데보다 앞쪽에 있으며 몸에 비해 크다. 가슴지느러미는 아가미 뚜껑 뒤쪽에서 배쪽에 가깝게 있다. 배지느러미는 등지느러미 기점 보다 약간 뒤에서 시작된다. 측선은 완전하며 전반부는 아래 쪽으로 약간 굽었다.

몸은 연한 황갈색으로 배는 은백색이다. 등쪽은 다른 곳보다 색이 더 짙은 연한 갈색이다. 몸의 옆쪽에는 7~11개의 흑갈색 반점이 있고 모든 지느러미는 무늬가 없고 투명한 유백색이다. 하천 중·하류에서 물이 맑은 곳의 자갈이나 모래가 깔린 바닥에서 생활한다. 위협을 느끼면 모래 바닥 속에 숨어 들어가고, 돌이나 자갈에 붙은 미세한 부착조류와 물에 사는 곤충을 잡아먹고 산다. 산란기와 생태에 대해서는 잘 알려져 있지 않다.

Distribution; Asia/endemic to south Korea. Found in Han, Geum, and Imjin rivers.
General; Body elongated, with shallow body depth, fore body slightly compressed and gradually more  compressed posteriorly. Eye large, placed at the center of head and dorso-head. Mouth below snout, horse shoe shape when seen from below. A pair of barbels at the corner of mouth, its’ length equivalent to 2/3 of eye diameter. The suture area profile of lower lip resembled upside down heart shape. Origin of dorsal fin placed ahead of center point of body length. Dorsal fin relatively large compared to body size. Pectoral fin placed close to abdomen and to posterior margin of opercula. Pelvic fin begins from behind of dorsal fin origin. Lateral line complete and slightly curved down in the anterior portion.

Body color with light brown dorsally and silvery ventrally. 7~11 dark blotches along lateral line. All fins with transparent creamy color and without marks. Inhabit sand and gravel bottoms of mid and lower reaches of clear streams. Hide under sands when
