분포; 서북태평양/한국의 서해와 남해, 일본 서남부, 동중국해, 남중국해에 분포.
일반개요; 몸은 약간 측편된 원통형이다. 주둥이 끝은 둥글다. 등지느러미와 뒷지느러미의 연조부의 약 1/3~1/2 기저부는 작은 비늘로 덮여 있다. 꼬리지느러미 기저부에도 작은 비늘이 있다. 등지느러미의 가장자리, 가슴지느러미의 후반부, 꼬리지느러미의 가장자리는 검은색을 띤다. 등쪽은 어두운 회갈색, 배쪽으로 밝아진다. 주둥이는 약간 붉은색을 띠고 아래, 위턱에 강한 송곳니가 줄지어 발달했다. 수심 15~100m의 개펄 바닥에 서식하며 저서 갑각류와 어류를 잡아 먹는다. 전장 90cm 이상으로 성장할 수 있다. 산란기는 9~10월이다.

Distribution: Northwest Pacific/western and southern waters in Korea, western Japan, East and South China Seas.
General: Slightly compressed, rounded body in cross section. Somewhat rounded snout. Soft-rayed portions of dorsal and anal fins covered with scales on 1/3~1/2 proximal part. Also scales on caudal fin base. Posterior half of pectoral fin black. Dorsal and caudal fin margin blackish. Dark greyish brown dorsally, pale below. Many strong fangs on both jaws. Inhabits coastal waters from 15 to 100m depth, with mud to sandy mud bottoms. Feeds on benthic crustaceans and fishes. Spawn in September~October.
