민대구 Hake(Genus Merluccius)
한국 시장에서 팔리는 민대구는 한국 종이 아니며 수입종이거나 원양어업 수산물이다. 한국 사장에서 거래되고 있는 민대구는 어떤 한 종을 특정하지 않고 수입되는 여러 종들을 통칭하고 있다.민대구과는 대구목에 속하며 분포해역은 대서양, 동태평양, 서남태평양(타스마니아 및 뉴질랜드)의 아열대와 온대, 아북극해와 아남극해 등의 물이 찬 해역에서 살며 보통 50m 이상 깊은 수심에서 발견된다. 민대구과(Merlucciidae)는 대구와 비슷하게 생긴 물고기로 영명으로 헤이크(hake)라고 부르는 물고기들 대부분이 여기에 속한다. 민대구과에는 모두 17종이 있는데 한국에서 유통되고 있는 민대구류는 예를 들어 다음과 같은 종들이다. •남태평양 민대구(South Pacific hake/ Merluccius gayi), 남태평양 민대구는 칠레 민대구(Merluccius gayi gayi)와 페루 민대구(Merluccius gayi peruanus)로 나뉜다, •아헨티나 민대구(Argentine hake/Merluccius hubbsi), •북태평양 민대구(North Pacific hake/Merluccius productus). 그 외에 뉴질랜드산 민대구, 케이프 민대구(아프리카산) 등이 한국에 수입되고 있을 가능성이 있다.  

Hakes(min-dae-gu) in Korean Market
The “min-dae-gu” traded in the Korean fish market is not a Korean species, but an imported species or a fishery product from deep-sea fisheries. Mindaegu is a generic term for several imported species without specifying any one species. It lives in the cold waters of temperate, subarctic and sub-Antarctic seas, and is usually found at depths of more than 50 m. Fishes in Merlucciidae are look similar to cod, and most of the fish called hake by English name belong to this group. There are a total of 17 species in Merlucciidae, and specimens in Korean market are possibly, South Pacific hake(Merluccius gayi), South Pacific hake is divided into Chilean hake (Merluccius gayi gayi) and Peruvian hake(Merluccius gayi peruanus), Argentine hake(Merluccius hubbsi), North Pacific hake(Merluccius productus). In addition, there is a possibility that New Zealand hake and Cape hake(from Africa) are being imported into Korea.
