분포; 서북태평양/한국의 서해와 남해, 일본 중남부, 타이완, 중국(통킹 만)에 분포.
일반개요; 살아있을 때는 그림과 같으며 강한 은빛이 난다. 죽은 개체는 청회색 바탕으로 변하고 머리의 뒤 등과 등지느러미 극조부의 어두운 반점만 뚜렷하게 남는다. 입은 튀어나오는 구조이다. 꼬리를 뺀 체장의 약 1/3에 해당하는 앞쪽 몸(머리 포함)에 비늘이 없다. 수심이 얕은 연안이나 기수역에서 무리를 지어 유영 생활을 한다. 소리를 낸다.

Distribution: Northwest Pacific/southern and western waters of Korea, central and southern Japan, Taiwan, and China (Gulf of Tongkin).
General: Color and markings equal to this drawing when alive. Silvery grey with large dark markings on nape and on upper anterior part of dorsal fin in spirits. Mouth protractile anteroventrally. Anterior 1/3 part of body (standard length) naked. Found in shallow coastal and brackish waters. Aggregates in schools. Food fish. Produces sound.
