키클리목(또는 키클리드목) Order Cichliformes
키클리목(Order Cichliformes)은 2과로 구성되어 있다. 농어목에 있었던 키클리과(Cichlidae; 또는 키클리드과)와 죄수베도라치과(Pholidichthyidae; 폴리디크티스과)를 묶어서 새로 만든 목이다. 키클리과는 담수어이며 죄수베도라치과는 해수어이다. 이 2과를 아직 농어목으로 분류하는 자료들이 남아있다. 키클리목에는 236속에 1702종이 알려져 있는데 죄수베도라치과에는 단 2종 밖에 없으므로 거의 모두 키클리과의 물고기들이다. 죄수베도라치과는 아주 작은 과이지만 키클리과는 척추동물의 가장 큰 과의 하나이다. 두 과는 서로 비슷한 점이 없는데도 분류학적으로 한 그룹에 묶는 이유는 분자생물학적 자료(molecular data)에 따른 것이다.

키클리목의 대표적 물고기 이름들은 키클리과의 “키클리드(Cichlids)”와 “틸라피아(Tilapias)”, 그리고 죄수베도라치과의 “죄수베도라치(Convict Blennies)”이다. 키클리과 어류 중에는 담수어 관상어 시장에서 매우 인기가 높은 물고기들이 많다. 인기 높은 종들은 소개하면 이렇다. 디스쿠스 피시(discus fish)라고 부르는 물고기로 Symphysodon 속하며 여러 종이 있다. 원산지는 아마존 강이다. 다음으로 엔젤피쉬(angelfish/학명; Pterophyllum scalare)가 있다. 아마존 강이 원산지이다. 해수어 엔젤피시(한국명; 청줄돔; Chaetodontoplus septentrionalis)와 혼동하면 안 된다. 다음으로 오스카 피시(Oscar fish/학명; Astronotus ocellatus)가 있다. 남아메리카 원산이며 관상어 용으로 여러 가지 아름다운 개량 품종들이 있다.

Order Cichliformes(cichlids and convict Blennies).
The Order Cichliformes consists of two families. It is a new order created by combining Family Cichlidae and Family Pholidichthyidae, which were previously classified under the order Perciformes. The Cichlidae is freshwater fish, and the Pholidichthyidae is saltwater fish. There are still some sources that categorize these two families as Perciformes. There are 1,702 known species in 236 genera in the order Cichliformes, only two species in Pholidichthyidae, so almost all of them are species of family Cichlidae. The Pholidichthyidae is a very small family, whereas the Cichlidae is one of the largest families of vertebrates. Although the two families have no similarities, the reason they are grouped taxonomically into one group is based on molecular data.

The well-known fish names in Order Cichliformes are “Cichlids” and “Tilapias” in family Cichlidae, and “Convict Blennies” in family Pholidichthyidae. Among the Cichlids, many species popular in the freshwater aquarium market. The most popular species are introduced as follows. One group is the several “Discus fishes” belongs to the Genus Symphysodon. Its origin is the Amazon River. Next is the fresh water Angelfish(scientific name; Pterophyllum scalare). It is native to the Amazon River. It should not be confused with the saltwater Angelfish(Korean species is Chaetodontoplus septentrionalis). The third is the Oscar fish(scientific name; Astronotus ocellatus). It is native to South America, and there are a number of ornamental varieties of A. ocellatus that have been developed for the aquarium industry.
