압치목(Order Gonorynchiformes; milkfishes) Order 28

Superclass Osteichthyes(bony fishes)→Class Actinopterygii(ray-finned fishes)→Superorder Ostariophysi→Gonorynchiformes; milkfishes)

압치목(Order Gonorynchiformes; milkfishes)

(Superorder Ostariophysi)

Order Gonorynchiformes(milkfishes)
Occurs in Marine, Fresh, and Brackish. Length about 10–150 cm. The Gonorynchiformes are an order of ray-finned fish that includes the important food source, the milkfish(Chanos chanos, family Chanidae), and a number of lesser-known types, both marine and freshwater. The alternate spelling "Gonorhynchiformes", with an "h", is frequently seen but not official. Gonorynchiformes have small mouths and no teeth. They are the sole group in the clade Anotophysi, a subgroup of the superorder Ostariophysi. They are characterized by a primitive Weberian apparatus formed by the first three vertebrae and one or more cephalic ribs within the head. This apparatus is believed to be a hearing organ, and is found in a more advanced and complex form in the related cypriniform fish, such as carp. Also like the cypriniforms, the gonorynchiforms produce a substance from their skin when injured that dissolves into the water and acts an alarm signal to other fish.

※About the Superorder Ostariophysi
When talking about the taxonomy of carp, it is usually explained as “Superclass Osteichthyes(bony fishes)→Class Actinopterygii(ray-finned fishes)→Order Cypriniformes→Family Cyprinidae(Minnows or carps). However, when discussing carp(Cyprinidae), it is necessary to insert “Superorder Ostariophysi” at the stage before “Order Cypriniformes”. This means grouping other fishes that look different from carp as relatives of carp. This is because these fish all share the characteristic of “ostaryophysi.” Superorder Ostariophysi are the second largest superorder of fish. The characteristic of Ostariophysi fish is that they have Weberian apparatus and alarm substance. The Weberian organ is the auditory organ. Sound waves transmitted in the water cause the swim bladder, like a rubber balloon, to vibrate, and the vibrations are transmitted to the inner ear through Weber's ossicles. Therefore, fish equipped with Weber's organ can be considered to have excellent hearing function. Most, but not all, Ostariophysis have the function of secreting alarm substances. When injured, it secretes a pheromone substance, and when its kin detects this smell, it sees it as an alarm signal and runs away in surprise. The reason that the Order Cypriniformes or Family Cyprinidae includes fishes that look completely different from carp is because they share the characteristics of Ostariophysi.

The Superorder Ostariophysi consists of the following five orders:
1. Order Gonorynchiformes; Approximately 37 species 압치목
2. Order Cypriniformes; Approximately 3,268 species
3. Order Characiformes; At least about 1,674 species of piranha
4. Order Siluriformes; Approximately 1,727 species 메기목
5. Order Gymnotiformes; Electric eels, knifefishes, approximately 173 species
