분포; 인도•서태평양/한국의 제주도, 일본 남부, 오스트렐리아 포함 서태평양, 홍해 포함 인도양에 분포한다.
일반개요; 몸과 머리는 측편되었다. 뒤로 가면서 등쪽과 꼬리자루에서 노랑오렌지색이 사라진다. 주둥이 끝에서부터 눈을 관통하는 검은 띠가 있고 띠의 위와 아래에 현란한 청색 줄무늬가 붙어 있다. 위턱에도 청색 줄무늬가 있다. 미병부 뒤를 한바퀴 돌아가는 검정 띠무늬가 있으며 띠의 폭은 중심부에서 좁아진다. 이 밴드는 어렸을 때 큰 둥근 검은 반점 형태이다. 1~40m 수심 범위의 암초 구석에 무리지어 있다.

Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: Jeju Island in Korea, southern Japan, West Pacific including Australia, Indian Ocean including Red Sea and East Africa.
General: Unrecorded Korean species. Head and body compressed. Yellow-orange gradating to pale upper back and tail base. A blackish stripe bordered by brilliant blue line, running from front of snout through eye and beyond. One additional blue streak on maxilla. Black bar encircling caudal peduncle narrows in middle, which in small juveniles develops as a large spot. Inhabits holes or under ledges in shallow reefs.
