분포; 인도•태평양: 한국의 제주도, 일본 남부, 서태평양, 하와이 포함 중부태평양, 인도양, 동아프리카에 분포. 
일반개요; 주둥이 등선은 약간 안으로 패였다. 몸 색은 분홍색과 회황색이 어우러졌으며 비늘 가장자리 선은 가늘다. 제1등지느러미 후반부 아래 측선에 큰 원형 흑색 점이 있고 그 뒤에 백색 내지 옅은 핑크색의 큰 반점이 있다. 제2등지느러미 기부의 흑색 밴드가 인접된 체측 쪽으로 번진 경우도 있다. 눈의 방사상 청색 선무늬들은 눈 아래 쪽으로는 뻗지 않았다. 측선 위 비늘마다 옅은 청색 점들이 보일 때도 있는데 미병부 상부에서는 반드시 보임. 제2등지느러미와 뒷지느러미에 옅은 청색선과 황색선이 엇갈려 평행. 수염은 백색 내지 핑크색. 1~75m 산호초 주변 해초밭, 모래, 자갈바닥에서 낮시간에 무척추동물과 작은 물고기를 잡아먹는다.

Distribution: Indo-Pacific/Jeju Island in southern Korea, southern Japan, East Africa to Hawaii and the Line, Marquesas and Tuamoto islands.
General: Elongated body, semicircular in cross section. Dorsal profile of snout straight to slightly convex. Body pinkish to yellowish gray. The scale edges narrowly dark. With a large black spot on lateral line below posterior part of first dorsal fin, followed by a large white to pale pink spot. Basal third of second dorsal fin with a broad black band, sometimes extending onto adjacent body. Blue lines radiating from eye except ventrally. A blue spot often present on each scale above lateral line, always present posteriorly. Also a pale blue spot, one per scale, ventrally on body, but often not visible. The outer part of second dorsal and anal fins with faint pale blue and yellow stripes. Usually solitary, seagrass beds, sand, rubble, or coral rock bottoms in 1~75m depth. Feeds on benthic invertebrates and fishes.
