분포; 동인도•서태평양/한국의 남해, 일본 남부, 동중국해, 서태평양, 인도의 서남부에 분포.
일반개요; 몸의 등쪽은 녹황색, 아래쪽은 은백색이다. 측선의 기점에 큰 타원형 흑색 반점이 있다. 가슴지느러미는 두 부분으로 나뉘고 아래 쪽의 실 같은 연조는 6개이다. 위 가슴지느러미의 기조들은 거의 모두 분기형이다. 내만의 모래, 개펄 지역(15~73m)에 서식하며 기수에도 들어간다. 작은 갑각류, 물고기, 기타 저서동물을 잡아먹으며 해면과 물고기의 비늘도 먹는다. 성전환을 한다.

Korean. n. Heuk-jeom-nal-ga-ji (흑점날가지)
Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean and West Pacific/South Sea of Korea, southern Japan, East China Sea, western Pacific and southwestern India.
General: Color is golden-olive above, silvery below. A large oval black blotch is at the start of lateral line. All rays of upper pectoral fin branched except uppermost 1 or 2. With 6 pectoral filaments. Found on sandy and muddy bottoms in coastal waters, frequently enters estuaries. Feeds mainly on small crustaceans, fishes and benthic organisms, also on sponges and fish scales Protandrous hermaphrodite.
