분포; 인도•태평양/일본 남부, 인도양(홍해와 페르시아만 제외)과 태평양의 열대 해역에 분포.
일반개요; 낮 시간 유영해 다닐 때와 야간의 체색이 전혀 다르다. 측선 위 등쪽은 청녹색, 배쪽은 백색 내지 연한 핑크 빛이다. 측선 위 등쪽의 비늘은 가장자리가 검어서 전체 비늘 열이 5~6개의 검정색의 선으로 보이며 그 아래에는 굵은 검정색 줄무늬가 있다. 이 검정색 줄무늬 아래에 너비가 넓은 형광 청색 띠가 있으며 이 띠는 머리와 미병부 쪽에서 좁아진다. 꼬리지느러미의 상엽과 하엽에 흑색 줄무늬가 있다. 가슴지느러미 기부 상단에 대략 삼각형의 흑색 점이 있다. 야간에는 형광 청색 띠무늬만 부분적으로 남고 전체적으로 어두운 적갈색이 되며 배쪽은 진한 적색이 된다. 물이 맑은 산호초 지대 60m 이내 수심에서 무리 지어 헤엄쳐 다닌다. 다른 종의 푸질리어들과 섞여 다닐 때가 많다. 중층에서 동물플랑크톤을 먹는다. 난생이며 알은 중층에 낳는다.

Distribution: Indo-Pacific/East Africa(not including Red Sea or Arabian Gulf), to Tuamoto Archipelago, south to Austral Islands, north to southern Japan.
General: Center of scales above lateral line bluish green with black margins, giving several dark scale row stripes on back, wider dark stripe below. A broad iridescent midlateral blue stripe zone, narrowing as it passes to front of head, and narrowing posteriorly to end in midbase of caudal fin. Head and body below blue zone silvery pink to red. Caudal fin whitish to pink with a black band in middle of each lobe. A triangular black spot at upper base of pectoral fin. Ranges widely around coral reefs. Feeds on zooplankton in midwater aggregations. Oviparous, pelagic eggs.
