Lateral view of Short ninespine stickleback(Pungitius kaibarae) |
[freshwater] ※Remarks(issue)/Scientific name of Pungitius kaibarae appears under the unaccepted status of the international World Register of Marine Species, and is a synonym for Amur stickleback(Punggitius sinensis). In fishbase, if you enter Pungitius kaibarae, it is described as Amur stickleback(Pungitius sinensis). As of November 2020. Some Korean textbooks define Pungitius kaibarae as “a subspecies endemic to Korea”. Distribution; Asia/Korean peninsula; streams flow to east coasts; Gokgangcheon, Hyeongsan River, Taehwa River, Geumho River in the east southern part of the Korean Peninsula, and rivers north of east central part of the peninsula including Namdaecheon river. As of 2016, it is a semi-threatening (NT) species on the National Red List. |
A photograph of preserved specimen of Pungitius kaibarae. In this photographic material, the year is handwritten as 1930 and the scientific name is printed as “Pungitius sinensis kaibarae”. The scientific name “Pungitius sinensis kaibarae” means, so to speak, a subspecies of Pungitius sinensis. However, Wikimedia and the photographer(OpenCage), the source of the photo, have classified it as "Pungitius kaibarae", not subspecies. |
