Distribution; Asia/All streams in Korean Peninsula except the streams flowing to east coast of north Korea. And distribute in southern Japan.
General; The Korean language name “Dol-go-gi” originated from an old word “Don-go-gi” which means “pig fish”; as the fish’s snout resemble the pig’s. Body elongated, trunk slightly compressed oval shape in cross section and compressed posteriorly, head depressed, gradually more depressed anteriorly to snout tip. Mouth small, horse shoe shape when seen from below, upper lip thick, gradually more thickened posteriorly, look as like swollen. With a pair of barbels. Lateral line complete, run straight the flank.

Deep brown dorsally, pale yellow or grayish brown ventrally. A thick dark brown stripe from snout through eye to caudal fin base. This stripe distinct in young specimen and look beautiful, but in older adults the stripe turn indistinct and its’ body color became dull, losing its’ beauty. Fins translucent with pale orange hue, and without spots or blotches.

Inhabit gravel bottoms in mid reaches of streams where clear water flows slowly. Juveniles school and swim in surface zone, go down to deeper depth as aging. Feed mainly on larvae of aquatic insects and attached algae. Very voracious as like the Chinese minnow(Moroco oxycephalus). This fish has so strong suction power that can suck out content of marsh snail, actually nature enemy of marsh snail. Marsh snail is intermediate host of dangerous distoma parasite, thus Striped shinner is also a dangerous medium of the parasite. Spawn in May to June, attach eggs onto the bottom of stones or rock crevices.
