따라서 서태평양에서 Giant guitarfish(동수구리; Rhynchobatus djiddensis)라고 알려져 있던 물고기는 다른 유사 근연종을 잘못 동종한 것이다. Org와 Wikipedia)

Distribution: Western Indian Ocean/restricted to the Red Sea and the tropical western Indian Ocean to South Africa. Also reported from Persian Gulf. It is restricted to the Red Sea, Persian Gulf, and western Indian Ocean, but in the past, was considered more widespread to West Pacific due to confusion with its relatives.
General: Also known as the whitespotted wedgefish. Head and snout triangular in shape; snout pointed. Mouths small. Both jaws heavily ridged, with flattened,  crushing teeth in undulating rows. Lower caudal lobe short. Origin of dorsal fin placed slightly ahead of pelvic fin. It is brownish or greyish above with a variable pattern of white spots on the upper body, white below. Juveniles have a black spot above each pectoral fin, but in adults it is a dusky ring or absent. There is a dark, bar-like pattern between the eyes(on top of the head), which separates it from the other Rhynchobatus species in its range.

It is a shy fish, found from 2–50 m depth, inhabiting areas with sandy sea floor. These are generally around coastal reefs or reef flats, but they will sometimes venture into the brackish waters of estuaries. The giant guitarfish feeds on bivalves, crabs, lobsters, squid and small fish. Exhibit ovoviparity(aplacental viviparity), with embryos feeding initially on yolk, then receiving additional nourishment from the mother by indirect absorption of uterine fluid enriched with mucus, fat or protein through specialised structures, and a female can give birth to litters of up to 4-10 young, about 43-60 cm in length, born in the summer.

The giant guitarfish is harmless to humans. It is listed as critically endangered on the IUCN red list as its population are believed to have declined significantly due to unregulated high levels of exploitation for its flesh and fins; the latter for shark fin soup. Its low fecundity and presumed slow growth rate make it highly vulnerable to unsustainable exploitation.
