Oder Anguilliformes Family Nettastomatidae(Duckbill eels). Red spotted eel Saurenchelys lateromaculatus(D'Ancona, 1928) ? cm TL Korean name/nap-jak-ori-ju-dung-i-jang-eo(납작오리주둥이장어). Chinese name/ 红斑弱头鳗
Distribution; Indo-West Pacific/Red Sea to South Africa, east to New Guinea, the Philippines, Taiwan, and southern East Sea(Japan Sea), including Korea. General; Red spotted eel is a tropical fish. The registration as a Korean species is not based on the discovery of adult fish, but based on the discovery of the young leptocephalus stage. Leptocephalus refers to the appearance of all eels before metamorphosis into adult form. The collection of the leptocephalus specimen was from the Pohang harbor city in south eastern sea of Korea, and its academic paper accepted in 2006. No more data. There is a view that question whether the define a national species based on the very early planktonic leptocephalus larvae is reasonable. ※General information of Family Nettastomatidae is provided in family section.
