일반개요;
출처/fishbase; “Synonyms of Saurida macrolepis Tanaka, 1917” and other scientific papers.

=================

General;
※ [issue]. The National Species List issued in April 2019, by National Institute of Biological Resources of Korea. and various other domestic materials record this fish’s scientific name as “Saurida undosquamis”, but this is mistakenly identified name of “Saurida macrolepis”. “Saurida undosquamis” and “Saurida macrolepis” are not in relation of synonym, but separate species. REFERENCE; fishbase/ “Synonyms of Saurida macrolepis Tanaka, 1917” and other scientific papers.

Speaking of the difference between the Saurida undosquamis(English name; Brush-tooth lizardfish) and the Saurida macrolepis(no global English name, called as Largescale saury in Australia); the Saurida undosquamis has several small black dots stamped at regular intervals on ① the front edge of the dorsal fin and ② the upper edge of the caudal fin. ③The lower margin of the caudal fin is black. ④The ventral side of body is darkish, not white. On the other hand, the Saurida macrolepis has no row of black dots on the front edge of the dorsal fin, but only on the upper margin of the caudal fin. And the ventral side of body and lower margin of caudal fin is white.
=============

Body elongated and cylindrical. Head slightly flattened. Eye with adipose eyelid. Snout pointed, mouth is large, and the jaws have several rows of sharp teeth. Posterior end of mouth reaches far beyond the eye. The dorsal fin is located in front of the center of the body, and the lengths of rays decreases rapidly as it goes posterior, so the length of the first soft ray is about 5 times longer than the last soft ray. The tip of the pectoral fin goes beyond the base of the pelvic fin. With an adipose fin behind the dorsal fin. Lateral line complete, the number of scales in front of dorsal fin is 17-20. The body color is yellowish brown dorsally and silvery white ventrally, and 8-10 distinct dark spots along the middle of the side. The scales are large and cycloid and deciduous. A row of dark spots on upper edge of caudal fin, lower edge is white.

Inhabits coastal areas with sandy or muddy bottoms at depths of 1 to 290 m. They do seasonal migrations, in winter move to offshore and in summer to inland bays. Feed on crustaceans such as shrimp, crabs, other invertebrates, small fish, and sometimes eat each other. It shows the most vigorous appetite in summer and the growth rate is faster in summer than in winter. Spawns in shallow water along the coasts with water temperature of around 17-22℃ in April-May. Caught by various methods such as fixed shore net, gill nets, and stow net. In Korea, it is mainly caught in the southern and western seas and is mainly used as a raw material for fish cakes.
