분포; 인도•서태평양/한국의 제주도, 일본 남부, 타이완, 필리핀, 타일랜드, 싱가포르에 분포한다.
일반개요; 남아프리카에서부터 일본 남부에 이르는 인도•서태평양 전역에 분포할 것으로 믿어지지만 오스트레일리아에서는 발견되지 않는다. 몸은 원통형이다. 등쪽은 연한 황갈색이며 전체적으로 은빛이다. 배지느러미와 뒷지느러미는 노란색을 띤다. 체측에 2줄 내지 3줄로 보이는 갈색 반점들이 있다. 가슴지느러미의 기부가 흑색인데 불분명한 개체도 있다. 연안의 모래, 개펄 바닥에 서식한다. 유어는 모래 속에 들어가 숨는 것으로 알려져 있다. 난생이다.

Distribution: Jeju Island in Korea, southern Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore. Possibly distributed throughout Indo-West Pacific but not recorded from Australia.
General: Crosssection of body round. Silvery body color with yellowish brown dorsally. Body with 2 or 3 rows of dark elongate blotches on the sides. Pelvic and anal fins yellowish. Pectoral fin base with black blotch, indistinct black blotch in some specimens. Occur in inshore waters on sand and silty bottoms. Juveniles burrow in the sand. Oviparous.
