분포; 인도-태평양/한국의 남부, 일본 남부, 홍해 포함 인도-태평양의 온대와 열대 아열대 해역에 분포.
일반개요; 측선 위에 1~5개의 흑색점이 있는데 전장 15cm 이상은 되어야 점이 나타나고 나이가 들수록 수가 많아진다. 중앙에 있는 두개의 점이 크고 뚜렷하다. 몸색은 위가 은회색 내지 은청색, 아래는 은백색이다. 제1등지느러미의 가시들은 지느러미 막 없는 분리 극조이다. 유사종(Trachinotus blochi)에 비해 주둥이가 뾰족하다. 암초 주변이나 모래 지역의 쇄파가 일어나는 곳(surf zone)의 표층을 좋아한다. 무리를 짓는다. 성어들은 두 마리 또는 소수의 무리로 다닌다. 작은 물고기와 갑각류를 먹는다. 어릴 때는 모래 바닥 쪽에서 산다.

Distribution: Indo-Pacific: southern Korea, southern Japan, temperate and tropical waters of Indo-Pacific, including Red Sea.
General: Silvery blue to grey above, silvery white below, 1~5 small black spots on lateral line(absent in specimens less than 15cm TL), number of spots increasing with age. Snout pointed. Spines of first dorsal fin separated and without membranes. Occurs near surface waters of seaward reefs or off sandy beaches. Moves in schools at edge of surf zone. Adults usually in pairs or small groups in surface waters. Feeds on small fishes and crustaceans.
