※ 한국어류대도감(김익수, 최윤 외, 교학사)의 설명: 1959년 정문기, 김균현이 부산에서 1마리의 표본을 입수하여 Trachurus declivis로 동종하고 한국 미기록종으로 발표하였으나 본종은 오스트렐리아 해역에 분포하는 종이어서 한국 분포에 대해 재검토가 요구된다.

분포; 서남태평양: 오스트렐리아 서남부(서오스트렐리아)에서부터 동남부(뉴사우스 웨일즈)까지 및 뉴질랜드에 분포한다.
일반개요; 성어는 몸이 길죽하고 약간 측편되었다. 측선 전체에 걸쳐 71~89개의 모비늘이 있다. 27~460m 수심 범위에 살며 바닥, 중층, 표층에 다 나타난다. 늘 무리지어 유영생활을 하다가 겨울에 바닥 가깝게 내려가는 경향이 있다. 크릴 새우, 플랑크톤 갑각류를 먹으며 깊은 수심에서 샛비늘치류(Myctophidae: Lightfish), 앨퉁이류(Sternoptychidae: lantern fish)를 잡아먹는다.

※ A single specimen collected in 1959, identified and registered as a Korean species, but distribution in Korea is not in accord with world distribution map, may be misidentification.

Distribution: Southwest Pacific: Western Australia to New South Wales, including New Zealand.
General: Entire lateral line with scutes. Adults are elongate and slightly compressed. Depth range 27~400m. Found near bottom, in midwater and occasionally at the surface. Form pelagic shools, may move close to sea bed during winter. Feed on krill and othe planktonic crustaceans, light fish(Sternoptychidae) and lantern fish(Myctophidae) at the edge of the continental shelf.
